The 26th APEC Human Resources Development (HRD) Working Group Meeting

The 26th APEC HRD Working Group Meeting was held in Jeju Island, Korea from May 11 to May 14, 2004. 120 Government officials and HRD (human resources development) experts from 21 APEC member economies, including Korea, U.S., Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Taiwan, and Thailand, attended this meeting. The participants discussed issues and future directions in developing human resources in the APEC region. The APEC HRD Working Group Meeting consists of the general assembly, three network (EDNET, CBN and LSPN) meetings, and a special session on thematic dialogue.

In this year’s meeting, Korea presented the progress of the Korean project “APEC Learning Community for Shared Prosperity” to promote learner-centered cyber education in the APEC region.  Korea also proposed a project entitled “APEC Consortium for Future Education,” which includes the creation of the future education forum and the partnership among innovative schools in the APEC region. The APEC member economies provided support and approval on this proposed project at the meeting.

The results of this meeting are to be reported at several other APEC meetings, such as the SOM Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation (ESC), ministerial meetings, and leaders’ meetings.
